In the first few years of life, more than one million neural connections are formed each second – a pace never repeated in the human lifetime.

The quality of a child's early experiences makes a critical difference as their brains develop, providing either solid or weak foundations for learning, health and behaviour throughout life. Active minds, just like active bodies, need constant feeding. Students need opportunities to develop their appetite for knowledge and remain curious.

Keeping the importance of early years learning in mind, we want to ensure that learning is a joyful process at BDSIS, Kharghar.

To make learning fun, we employ the following approaches:

Extended Learning
This approach connects the community and school through real-world experiences.
It supports the STEAM curriculum, habits of mind, makerspace and project-based learning.

Real-world learning
Visits where students are taken outside the school to expand their learning horizons. Virtual tours will be organised for inaccessible places to help achieve desired learning outcomes.

Learning from the Masters
A guest visitor with specific expertise is invited to the school to enhance students learning experience per the monthly learning theme.

International Days
These will be celebrated to strengthen the students' awareness of festivals and significant global issues, empowering them to reach out to their communities. Inhouse learning activities are integrated with the theme of the month to encourage cultural sensitivity.

Special Days
These foster integrated learning and give our students hands-on information on various topics forming connections between different subjects in school.

Components of the Skill Based Program

Literacy

• Follows the whole language approach.
• Students are given opportunities to acquire, comprehend, interpret and present information and consequently become effective communicators.
• Students are encouraged to hone their expressive and receptive language skills across the different literacy components.

Writing

• A writing practice that provides a solid foundation to spell and write letters, words, phrases and sentences.
• Implementing developmentally appropriate, multisensory strategies for early writing, drawn from research on how children learn best and include materials that address all learning styles - children move, touch, feel, and manipulate real objects as they learn essential habits and skills for writing.

Numeracy
Children are given multiple opportunities to hone their mathematical skills across different strands.

Creativity

• Creativity is encouraged and developed through visual and performing arts
• Children develop a variety of skills by exploring different sensory materials, experimenting enthusiastically with art materials and investigating the processes and concepts presented to them
• As they are exposed to the creativity of notable artists and their peers, they are given numerous open-ended, hands-on opportunities to create artworks of their own. Through dance, music, musical instruments and drama, they express their thoughts, feelings and ideas and engage with their peers and the community.

Parent partnership is very important in the Early years of learning; hence, the extension of learning is coded to indicate the scope of parental involvement.

The middle school curriculum grooms students to become more responsible, confident, and reflective. Our pedagogical practices, guided by neuroscientific approaches, Bloom's taxonomy, and the theory of multiple intelligences, strive to make every learning moment meaningful, joyous and effective. Students are encouraged to develop a global view through interdisciplinary learning.
